Ferno steps in to help stricken family

Ferno (UK) Limited is pleased to have been able to help a family recently whose baby son suffers from cerebral palsy.

The family from Staffordshire needed help transferring their little boy to and from hospital and approached Ferno UK for a solution.

Despite having ambulance transport to take him to Hospital (sometimes as often as 3 times a week) the family had to make their own way home. Transporting their son in a traditional baby seat was impacting on his health and aggravating his symptoms.

“On various occasions we have been fortunate with the local GP paying for the ambulance to return him home. However, this can take a while, often resulting in missed feeds, causing him distress. This in turn affects his stats placing him in a delicate position,” explained his uncle. “The local council are also making big cuts in his care because they never thought he would live this long and we were worried that we would be refused transport back from hospital visits.”

Through research the family discovered Ferno’s range of products and when Jon Ellis, MD, heard about their situation he was happy to help and the company immediately donated a BabyPod unit.

Designed to provide a safe transfer of a baby, the Ferno BabyPod is completely non metallic, X-ray translucent and MRI compatible. It consists of a lightweight carbon fibre outer shell, lined with a shock absorbent foam inner layer, and has a transparent lid for viewing. The BabyPod also contains a patient positioning vacuum mattress, stretcher fixing straps to secure the device for transport, and safety straps to secure the infant inside the device during transport.

Jon Ellis said: “BabyPod is designed exactly for this kind of situation. We knew instantly the BabyPod would make a huge difference to their son’s quality of life and so didn’t hesitate in providing this product for such a worthy cause.”
