Ferno See Sales Surge as Yorkshire Firms Prepare for Swine Flu Impact
posted 29th August 2009
As swine flu continues to sweep across the UK, Yorkshire-based Ferno is witnessing a surge in demand as companies react to Government advice and stock up on hygiene supplies.
Ferno UK, one of the world's leading emergency response suppliers, has been inundated with enquiries and orders as businesses take preventative measures to protect staff against passing on the highly contagious virus.
The current pandemic could potentially set the UK economy back £50 billion. Simon Shepherd, Sales Director from Ferno UK, comments: "Employers are realising how important it is to invest in additional hygienic measures in order to safeguard their workforce. Not only do they want to minimise the potential spread of Swine Flu, economically it could be financially damaging for companies to have a significant number of employees off on sick leave.
"We don't want to panic people; we are just urging employers to take preventive measures against swine flu by upping personal hygiene in the workplace. Local companies have been requesting additional supplies and we have been inundated with requests for hand disinfectant gel and aerosol sprays for both body and rooms."
The Government has warned that deaths from swine flu this winter could reach 65,000 in the UK, with a third of the population becoming infected in the coming months. In Yorkshire alone, 178 people were hospitalised with flu-like symptoms in the last week alone.
